In the daylight, the Rio waits. The marquee is still up, the doors are still there, but the crowd hasn’t arrived yet. Seen from across the street at Lillian’s, it feels like catching a performer before they’re dressed for the show. Quiet. Ordinary. A little lonely. But everyone in Santa Cruz knows what this place becomes after dark, and that’s what makes the stillness feel full instead of empty. It’s the pause between nights, when the building gets to just be itself.
Acrylic on canvas, 24" H x 16" W, 2026. Original, one of a kind.
